Redcap Merits and Flaws

Aversion (1 to 3 point Flaw):

While most Redcaps can eat absolutely anything, you have a type of food you can't bring yourself to eat or keep in your stomach.  Relatively uncommon foods (such as strawberries, silver, or eyes) are only worth 1 point, more common food categories (such as dairy products, precious gems, or bones) are worth 2 points, and very broad categories (such as meat, inanimate objects, or vegetation) are worth 3 points.   If you accidentally eat something you have an aversion to, you must make a Static Physical vs. 8 Traits to avoid puking up everything in your stomach, and for the next half hour, you must make a Willpower Test (Diff 3) to do anything but move.

Chicken Claws: (2 or 3 point Flaw):

Some legends of Redcap describe them as having claws not unlike those of a chicken.  A Redcap with this flaw has either Chicken Claws instead of hands or instead of feet.  Chicken Claws - 2 Point Flaw, suffer a two trait penalty for all fine manipulation challenges, but scratching can do Lethal.  Chicken Feet - 3 Point Flaw, two traits down when Dodging and can only take two steps a round, but kicking can do lethal.

Stolen Tooth:

This Flaw is not recommended for sanctioned play.  If you wish to explore this concept with your character, you should take a derangement along this line, instead of this flaw.

Faster (1 point Merit):

As listed in tabletop.  A Redcap with this Merit can go without eating for 24 hours, and another 24 hours for every Willpower spent.  At the end of the fasting, they must immediately eat enough to make up for the meals missed.

Granite Skin (2 point Merit):

The Redcap has a natural layer of granite over their skin, which provides some defense, but also chips and scrapes noisily on occasion.   The Redcap is always considered to have one level of armor, or one extra level of armor if any is already being worn (up to a total of 5 levels of armor).  “Damaged” granite skin is healed after a night’s sleep, or standard healing.

Unforgettable Taste (5 point Merit):

Redcaps with this Merit have an uncanny knack to remembering, recognizing, and tracking any taste they’ve ever experienced.  They can always recognize and identify a taste they’ve experienced before (“This isn’t the real Princess, it’s an impostor!”), and with a successful Mental challenge, with survival as a retest, they can determine the direction of the nearest source of a given “taste” that they’ve experienced before.  The difficulty can range from five, for a generalized category (“cows”, “buildings”, “poison”) to 12 for very specific items (“Sir Foolhardy”, “my axe”, “Ironfang the Dragon”).  Extreme distance may also raise the difficulty, but it’s always possible.
